Beginning 2nd semester the Advanced Strength and Conditioning classes, in collaboration with the Physics classes, will begin utilizing a new technology during their training.  The device pictured is an Accelerometer and it will allow athletes in the LHS weight room to receive real-time feedback on their lifting performance.  This device is strapped to the bar or athlete, paired with bluetooth to an iPad, and tracks the movement speed and orientation of the exercise.  This new system will allow Strength and Conditioning staff to evaluate the efficiency of an athlete’s movements and  adjust the weight/exercise based on the data collected.  This type of training is known as velocity based training and there is a lot of research to support its impact on students’ readiness, strength, fatigue and recovery.  The data produced during class will be analyzed by and used as a real world application of mechanics in Physics.  We are excited to continue to improve our training at LHS!
