ELL students (English Language Learners) across the district are taking the ELPA (English Language Proficiency Assessment). Each year, students who have not reached English proficiency are given the assessment in order to gauge their progress. The assessment measures each student’s skills in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The ELPA is one more tool in monitoring student learning and achievement.

This assessment is done online. Each component is lengthy so ELL students at the high school were tested on more than one day. The Listening and Speaking tests were given the first day. Reading and Writing were given on two consecutive days to keep students from feeling overwhelmed and to encourage them to focus as much as possible on each part.
