Introduction to athletic training students have spent the early part of the year getting acquainted with the five domains of athletic training. The five domains of athletic training are injury prevention, evaluation, immediate care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organization and administration. To help better understand how to treat athletic injuries, students partook in a therapeutic modalities lab where they were able to experience a number of different modalities that are used in the athletic training room. A few of the modalities that students tried were cold whirlpools, paraffin baths, therapeutic ultrasound, moist heat packs, and electrical stimulation. In the picture provided, senior students Ethan Mins and Ismael Ayala can be seen performing an ice massage on their arms. As the semester continues to progress, students will begin learning about specific injuries that occur to different areas of the body, and how to incorporate these modalities into an athletes recovery process.
