In English 3 S we are wrapping up our novel unit on “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry. This play is set in the 1950s in Chicago and follows a multigenerational African American family after they come in to a large sum of money. The theme of the story is dreams, as the title refers to a poem by Langston Hughes entitled “Dreams Deferred.” The line in the poem asks what happens to a dream deferred, does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? To end the unit the students are going to do a presentation on their dreams. They are researching their dream career, dream house, and dream car and will present during their final exam time in English class. They have been excited to research and show the class their aspirations!
