Students in Art 1 have been working on still life drawing, honing their drawing skills. The biggest point of emphasis is being able to recreate what’s in front of you, while maintaining the correct proportions throughout. The still life has gradually become more and more difficult, starting with basic geometric forms, and now adding more organic shapes like skulls, bones, and bottles.
Along with measuring for correct proportions, the students have been looking at values, or shadows and light, and also creating textures.
In addition to the still life drawings, the Art 1 classes have discussed the differences in right and left brain people, and how that can contribute to preconceived notions of “being a natural artist” or not.
As the weather begins to cool off, the Art 1 classes will be going outside, trying to apply their drawing techniques while drawing plein-air.
