National Runner Up in FCCLA - Christain Burton
Congratulations to Christain Burton, a senior to be this fall at Lexington High School!!
Christian traveled to Seattle, Washington last week to compete in the National Family Career and Community Leaders of America STAR competition. This is a Nationwide competition involving different categories. Examples of different events that students compete in include job interview skills, public policy advocacy, and fashion construction. Through the Nebraska FCCLA State competition, Christian qualified for the National Meet in the category of Professional Presentation, Level 3. After the smoke settled, Christian finished as the National Runner Up, placing only behind one competitor from Kentucky. Christian placed second out of approximately 50 different competitors, representing the entire United States.
Throughout the week, in addition to competing in his event, Christain was able to attend leadership training sessions and network with over 8,000 different high school FCCLA members in attendance.
This is the first year Lexington has offered FCCLA as an extracurricular activity. It is led by its sponsor, LHS Family and Consumer Science Instructor, Emma Krysl.
This trip wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of the following local businesses: TL Sund Construction, Plum Creek Medical Group, and Holdrege Irrigation. Christain and the LHS Activities Department would like to thank those backers.
Way to Go, Mr. Burton!! #golex
