English 3 Studies Poe
Students in Mrs. Gruntorad’s English 3 classes have been studying the Romantic period of American literature. One prominent author of this time period was Edgar Allan Poe. Students were exposed to a number of his texts including the poems “Annabel Lee” and “The Raven.” In these poems students worked to identify poetic devices as well as major themes of the writing. Then students read Poe’s short story “The Black Cat.” This haunting tale includes literary elements such as symbolism and motif. To show their understanding, students created blackout poetry illustrating either symbolism or motif.
