Drop Everything And Read

Students on Destination Graduation Team 3 are reading The Boys In The Boat. It is about nine working-class rowers on the University of Washington’s rowing team and how they shocked the country when they qualified to compete in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The main character, Joe Rantz, was abandoned at the young age of 10 and was left to take care of himself. He barely had enough money to put a roof over his head and food on the table, let alone tuition to the University. But, Joe found many laborious jobs that kept him in school, in shape, and on the varsity team. While trying to achieve his dream, Joe meets many boys who have been through similar adversities that he has and learns how to open up and trust others again.
