This week in Applied Science, students are going to war! Well, not really, but they are having fun with a STEM activity. They are building simple catapults out of popsicle sticks, rubber bands and a plastic spoon. Students were also provided index cards to build a ‘castle’. They were then supplied several different types of ‘artillery’ to experiment with and see which weapon destroyed their castle the best.

In science class, data collection is a must, so students recorded how well different types of ammunition worked by comparing them. They did this by measuring the mass of their artillery, the distance they flew and also, most importantly, the destruction to their castle.
