Automotive:
First year students have completed lessons about automotive insurance, and studied the four strokes of an engine, performed precision measurements, practiced dent and paint scratch repair, and tire patching. Students have learned to use a tap and die along with using Heli coil to repair threads. Two classes have finished small engines. Period 3-4 Is starting teardown and will learn how small engines work and reassemble and start their engines, hopefully before winter break.
Second year students have completed electrical class, learning how to read wiring diagrams, the use of a multimeter to measure voltage, amps, and resistance. They have also repaired wiring and learned the difference between open circuit and shorted circuit. They also tore down a five-speed manual transmission and learned about the synchronizers to help with smooth gear changes, bearing preloads and gear ratios. They reassembled the transmission and checked its operation.
Students are in the process of removing an engine and will tear it down to make a list of all the worn parts that need replaced before winter break, so parts can be rounded up over winter break. When they get back after break, they will reassemble the engine, install it, get the engine running, and make any necessary adjustments to the carburetor and clutch.
