On Wednesday November 6 freshman students at Lexington High School had the
opportunity to go on a college visit to see the campuses of Hastings -Central
Community College and Grand Island Central Community College. Students were
provided with an opportunity to get a view and understanding of college life and
academic requirements.
The students were able to compare the two college campuses and see the emphasis
of educational tracts at each college. For example, students were able to see the
criminal justice field and various medical field course work at the Grand Island
campus. Meanwhile at the Central Community College-Hastings campus student
were exposed to the academic fields of heavy equipment machinery, business
manufacturing, culinary skills, automotive, and welding. In addition, at the
Hastings campus, students toured the dorms to see a sample of student living on
campus.
The visits offer the freshmen the opportunity to discuss in their Foundation of
Leadership classes, career paths they are interested in and begin to start their
planning for the future. In upcoming weeks, Foundations of Leadership students
will be discussing resumes and career networking and how each relate to future
developments in their lives.
