Pershing's Walk at Lunch Day

May 4, 2012

Pershing Elementary students joined many Nebraska schools and businesses by participating in Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska’s (BCBSNE) sixth annual National Walk@Lunch Day on Wednesday, April 25. Instead of Walking@Lunch, the students walked to Kirkpatrick Park during their “Specials” time and created a “Walking@PE” Day by walking around the drive through the park.

Walking is one of the easiest and best ways to get and stay in shape. With Nebraska’s obesity rate nearly doubling the past 15 years, getting regular physical activity is as important as ever. National Walk@Lunch Day encourages healthy living habits for a lifetime. Many of our more ambitious students chose to jog or run around the make-shift track before stopping for a healthy snack in the park before heading back to school. This was an opportunity for all of us to make a commitment to a healthier Nebraska. Walking will improve our health, help us feel better and perform better in the classroom!
