Pershing School extends Arbor Day winning streak

April 28, 2014

For the fourth year in a row a Pershing Elementary School pupil has won the Lexington Tree Board's 3rd grade Arbor Day poster Contest.  Nikki Sonthana was honored on Arbor Day, April 25.  The Tree Board planted an elm tree on the grounds of Pershing School, and made a presentation of her poster framed for posterity.  Also helping out were three students from Mr. Schott's high school Future Farmers of America program.

The Tree Board judged a record-breaking 202 poster entries from Lexington elementary school pupils, but has no knowledge of the artist or the artist's school until the judging is over.

Arbor Day was originated in Nebraska and has become a national day that celebrates trees, and is always the last Friday in April.

Lexington Tree Board members are: Glenn Hawks, Brad Schott, Gordon Sellin, Marty Smith and Dave Stenberg.
