Reading Banquet 2018

"Get Lost in a Good Book"
Reading Banquet 2018

"Get Lost in a Good Book" was the theme of the reading banquet held at LMS on March 20th. The cafeteria was filled with 45 tables that had been decorated by homeroom classes to represent books they had selected. We had everything from White Water to The Old Willis Place to Jackie's Wild Seattle!

Guests had 30 minutes to tour the tables and do a book scavenger hunt before the banquet began. Two different desserts were served to the 300+ guests by student servers who were decked out as "Where's Waldo."

Then the program began with Book Faces and a Reading Renga: A Poem in Many Voices. We took a Google Earth Adventure featuring the places that all the books were located. Alison Bleich, a Park Naturalist at Lake McConaughy with Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, gave us a presentation on the "Great Parks Pursuit." This is a program will encourage the community to get outdoors and enjoy public land.

The program finale was a "Get Lost in a Good Book Quiz Show". Guest, students and adults, where asked to join the quiz show. They were asked a variety of questions about books using the program, Kahoot. What fun it was! The program ending with everyone reciting the "Reader's Oath" a poem by Debra Beckman.
