History Comes Alive

3rdPeriodIt has been a very busy third quarter.  Right before Christmas break my students chose a famous person from a list and then they began their research.  They were able to use three web resources:  Britannica Online, SIRS Discoverer, and netTrekker.  Each student had to collect ten facts, including where their person was born, where they lived, when they died, and family information.  They were also required to collect at least four pictures from these websites.  My kids were also informed that they would need to find a costume over Christmas break so they could dress like their character.  After break was over, each child narrowed their ten fun/interesting facts down to the top five.  Next Mrs. Gustafson came in to give us some tips on how to use the Inspiration application on our laptops.  Now that they had the basics, the kids were given the creative liberty to put their five facts into this program along with a picture of their famous person and a picture of them dressed as that famous person.  The last step in this three-week process was to dress up like their famous person and present their Inspiration project to the rest of the class, Mrs. Gustafson, and myself.  I am very proud of them and the effort they put into this project.  You will have two opportunities to see these projects:  1. at student-led conferences and 2. at History Night on February 17th from 3:30-6:30 p.m.  I look forward to seeing you then.
