Family Consumer Science

reutlinger1Family Consumer Science or Living Skills classes in the middle school are to prepare all students for life as individuals, family members and the community by the use of technology in the classroom. We use computers to learn not only how to cook and sew but other life skills. A healthy life style transfers to the family, work place, and community in later life. Life Skills reflects every day living in the real world.

Students learn by computer-based modules with two or three partners, rotating modules and subject matter every 12 to 14 days. Students complete sewing projects such as tote bags, which can be used to carry their PE clothes to class. Students make food in the Sweet Module. reutlinger2Students learn to take care of babies (dolls) in the Baby Care Module. This includes diapering, dressing and feeding the baby a bottle. In the Nutrition and Wellness Module students wear DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) Goggles to show them the affects of alcohol while walking the white line.
