What's Happening at the Skills Armory?

April 11, 2018

Automotive Class:  First year students are getting a lot of hands-on experience. We are studying brakes and suspensions. Students have a cool project; they are working on a 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster. Students have replaced brake shoes, wheel cylinders, return springs and the master cylinder. They also learned how to adjust drum brakes. This semester they have worked on modern brakes, as well as many other projects.

Second year students took on the task of getting the ‘48 running. They replaced the fuel pump, cleaned fuel lines, and repaired the starter. Students also have been working on their own cars. They have lowered the rear end of a pickup, replaced the transmission cooler in a BMW, replaced the camshaft in a Chevy pickup, and many other projects.

We are now looking forward to the SkillsUSA competition in Grand Island on February 12ththrough the 14th.  Automotive is sending 7 students to compete that will try to qualify for the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in June.
