Lexington High Student Wins NCWIT Regional Award

February 11, 2019

I am very excited to announce that Evelin Vasquez-Valtierra was selected as a Nebraska and Southwestern Iowa NCWIT Regional Award recipient. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) honors women in grades 9 through 12 who are active and interested in computing and technology and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award for AiC recipients are chosen for their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education.

This is Evelin’s bio that appears on the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing 2019 High School recipient’s website. Evelin spends her time working part-time for her family and volunteers at her local movie theater. Evelin is an honor roll student with perfect attendance and has received recognition for achieving all A's on her report card in 2018-2019. She was elected as the Vice President of the Lex Tech Club after participating for most of her high school career. Evelin has participated in her school's One Act and was Co-Head Technician for four years by working Lights and Sound, receiving the Best Technical Production award in 2017 for the best utilization of technical and design experience. Evelin is biliterate: she can speak, write, and read in English and Spanish, and is working towards learning many other languages, mainly Asian languages, such as Mandarin, Korean and Japanese. She hopes to connect people from different cultures through her experiences in technology by learning many languages. In the future, Evelin would like to major in Computer Science at the University of Nebraska at Kearney as a Kearney Bound Scholar. She is focused on working on Web Design and IT in college. Evelin hopes to connect the world through technology.

Evelin is an outstanding student and young woman. Congratulations on receiving this outstanding award for your accomplishments.
