The "Write" Tools with Ms. Weidner

November 6, 2012

Students in English 10 have been spending most of the semester writing paragraphs and five paragraph essays. A couple of topics that the students have written about are "If you could pick a celebrity speaker to speak at our school who would you pick and why?", and "If the school received a large donation of money what would you want to do with it?" The students have been diligently working on The Write Tools format for writing paragraphs. There are eight steps that are required before a student writes the paragraph which helps students organize their thoughts and write more complete paragraphs. The steps are; analyze the prompt, stop and think, brainstorm, pick and choose, plan, four topic sentences, turn and talk, and then draft. This process has seemed to be effective for the students and they hate writing a little less when they can be successful!
