The Game Club Takes on a New "Role"!

April 3, 2013

Members of the Lexington High School Game Club had the opportunity to attend the Game Fest, hosted by Kearney High School in early March.  GameFest was a three day event for fans of trading card games such as Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh as well as Pokémon.  Also popular at GameFest were table top games such as Dungeons and Dragons, as well as Warhammer 40K.

The students that attended GameFest spent the entire day playing an open source, free version of Dungeons and Dragons, called Basic Fantasy Role-Playing (BFRP).  The rules, characters, stories, maps, etc. for Basic Fantasy Role-Playing are available to anyone online for free!  Upon returning from GameFest, it was requested by Game Club members that extra time be allowed during the week for members to play BFRP, on time of time already allowed for regular Game Club events.

There are currently 12 students playing Basic Fantasy Role Playing after school on Tuesday's and occasionally Friday's in Mr. Patocka's room.  This event is entirely student run, and the best part is that there are no expenses whatsoever to the students who wish to participate!
