Nebraska State Writing Assessment (NeSA-W)

September 15, 2011

Students in English 11, American Literature, have begun preparing for the state writing assessment (NeSA-W), which will be given in January 2012.  Students are learning to write five-paragraph persuasive essays, analyze state prompts, and follow the six traits of writing.  The six traits of writing are Ideas, Organization, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, and Conventions.  Students are working on each area individually in order to improve their overall writing ability.  Most important, each student is improving the writing skills they have already acquired through practice, practice, practice!

A formal practice NeSA-W test will be given to students in English 11 in September for assistance and grading by the ESU10 office in Kearney, NE.  This feedback will assist teachers and students in improving scores.  In November, students will take a state administered practice test.  In January, the official state test will be administered.
