LHS and Nebraska VR Partner Together

January 8, 2015

Seniors participating in Ms. Archer’s Career Preparation/Transition courses have been diligently working with Nebraska VR counselors, an outside government agency, in order to facilitate a smooth transition from the high school setting to various post-school environments.  The mission of Nebraska VR is to help people with learning differences prepare for, obtain, and maintain employment while helping businesses recruit, train, and retain employees.

These seniors are busy finalizing their career and employment plans for after high school by setting post-school goals in the areas of education, employment, and independent living.  In order to make informed decisions, seniors are completing a variety of transition assessments including college placement exams (ASSET, COMPASS, ACT), participating in college/university site visitations, completing college admission and scholarship applications, completing job shadowing experiences, and many other activities.  In addition, these seniors are in the process of creating an electronic career planning portfolio on the www.careercruising.com website.

In order to learn more about Nebraska VR services, please visit their website at http://vr.ne.gov/index.html or find them on Facebook at “Nebraska VR”.  For further information about LHS transition services, contact Ms. Becky Archer, LHS Transition Coordinator, at 308-324-4691 Extension 2-309.

LHS seniors, Jose Tecla, Chris Munoz, and Carlos Alcantar visit Central Community College - Hastings - led by Juan Jose Alvidrez, CCC freshman and 2014 LHS graduate.
