“History Happens”

March 9, 2015

Mr. McConnell’s American History 2 Honors Class

Since February was Black History Month, students were given the opportunity to study the 40 Martyrs.   Each student chose a person who gave their life for Civil Rights.  Once a person was selected, students were to give a power point presentation that included the background of the person and their significance to the Civil Rights Movement.  The presentations included the circumstances of the death and the killer’s background.  The presentations concluded with the verdict, the sentence and the lasting effects of this person’s story.  Students not only learned about Black History and Civil Rights, but they also explored history from a different perspective.
