Technology in the Classroom - Part 2

October 21, 2011

I would like to once again re-visit our technology conversation with some of the various things that our students are doing at the high school.  Previously I discuss turn it in and classroom collaboration.  This week's discussion will be centered on Google Docs/Email, being they are basically one in the same. This is the email system that the high school uses for students and teacher to student communication.  What most people don't know, is that Google docs is much more than just email, since students are able to collaborate on documents, PowerPoint's, spread sheets, and more using Google.  As a teacher this allows us the chance to have kids complete group work, projects, and discussions with other students within the classroom setting.  The Google option of sharing these documents however allows the students the opportunity to work on documents together outside of the classroom and being in completely different locations, because the document is web based. Often as a staff, we share documents with one another so that we are able to collaborate without having to be working directly together at the same time.  Google docs have been a very beneficial product for both students and teachers.  This may seem strange to some, but it is a common use within the work world of technology today.    -Mr. Frauen
