New Science Class

September 20, 2011

This year Ecology has been introduced at the high school for those students that are not as strong at math so that they may still fulfill  the science credits.  This class is being taught by Mr. Ben Klein.  Mr. Klein is an avid outdoorsmen and is keenly aware of the importance Ecology brings to the science curriculum  He is quoted as saying, "A lot of time in science is spent looking at the trees, Ecology looks at the forest."  To clearify much of science is centered around atoms, molecules,  cells, and specific organisms.  Ecology spends it time to focus on the interactions of those smaller things with all the other things.

    Topics covered in Ecology are:

  • Ecosystems
  • Population Density
  • Energy Flow through out the ecosystem
  • Bio-chemical cycling
  • Predator-Prey Relationships
  • Symbiotic relationships
  • And many, many more.

In the picture above students are working on identifying plants.  This is essential to understanding an ecosystem biomass and determining primary productivity.
