Focus Period

2nd Period at Lexington High School is a unique class setting for sophomores through seniors called Focus Period.  Freshman have their own 2nd period called Foundations of Leadership.  Focus Period teachers have the opportunity of working with the same students each year.  As seniors graduate sophomores move into their places.  The goal of this Focus Period is to help students with their individual needs, monitor grades, help students with homework and build character.  The teachers form relationships with the students by holding personal weekly interviews, discussing classes, grades and extra curricular activities.  Weekly character discussions are also held.  There are monthly themes where teachers develop lessons on different character issues.  Some examples are honesty, respect, citizenship and integrity.

The first Friday of every month the academic teams (3 classes of Focus Period students and one Foundations of Leadership students) meet together to work on Destination:  Graduation.  At that time celebrations are held for students who have done well academically as well as those involved with an extra curricular activity.  Activities and strategies are held encouraging students to graduate with their cohort.
