Playground Safety Upgrade

November 10, 2010

The Lexington Public Schools Buildings and Grounds Department has just completed a playground safety upgrade district wide.  The staff members have successfully installed over 120 tons of recycled rubber tires under all of the district playground structures.  The tire material has replaced less effective materials used in the district such as wood chips, gravel, and even some sand areas.

The material was purchased with a matching funds grant from the Nebraska DEQ.  All of the tires that were used are tires that have been recycled from throughout the state of Nebraska.  This keeps the tires out of our landfills and serves as highly protective fill material.
